Car Rental Agent
I work at a car rental place down by the airport. It’s not a bad job at all. It is kind of a dirty and dank area surrounded by industrial businesses, but that’s alright because I don’t exactly live here. There are several positions which I work too. My favorite is working what they call the desk. That’s the agent position where you take the customer when they come in and assign them a unit (that’s how we refer to the cars) and then fill out the contract. It is also a chance to earn a commission if you can up sell them on the additional insurance or what we call a loss damage waiver.
Unfortunately though, I usually end up in the booth. That is the agent position where you check the car as they are leaving. It has gotten better though. You no longer have to go flipping though the customers’ paperwork then get out of the booth to verify the VIN. Now we use special inventory software that is hooked to a barcode scanner. You just zap their paperwork then zap the car. This is really nice particularly when the weather is awful. Now I don’t even mind working in the booth if it is raining!
