Disability insurance companies are there for your practice
One of the most amazing statistical trends I’ve noticed over the years of being a dentist is the relatively slow, albeit steady rise of dentist disability insurance premiums. Don’t get me wrong, relative to other insurance coverage, what we have to pay is a pittance.
The best thing for our practices is that the disability insurance companies understand that by taking care of us, they ultimately are taking care of themselves.
I’ve only dealt with a few insurers in all my years of private practice, but I can honestly say that when it comes to customer service, they are tops in the industry. I’ve had the misfortune of having a number of challenges with disability over the years, and not a single one of those times did I feel I was being mistreated by my insurer.
When you need the disability insurance company to do what it is you’ve been paying them for all those years, you simply want them to come through. While I’m sure there is some amount of fraudulent claims in this industry, apparently the percentage is much lower than other areas of insurance.
At the end of the day, if you find a superstar insurance company and treat them well, they are going to treat you well when you need it the most.
