Jack Johnson’s New Album

All right, this week on the music review is Sleep Through the Static, Jack Johnson’s umpteenth album.  The man is prolific.  Sleep is a great collection that showcases Johnson’s chill, kick back style and relaxed vibe while still highlighting his passions, both for American accountability, as in the title track, and for his wife, as seen in “Same Girl,” among other passions.  He, as usual, delivers with remarkable lyrics and an easy, catchy beat.  Among his best tracks are “Losing Keys,” featuring lyrics like “I’ve been losing lots of keys lately, I don’t know what that means but maybe I’d be better off with things that can’t be locked at all”; and “Monsoon.”  With lyrics like “all of the world is in one drop of the ocean”, Monsoon (as is most of the album) is best listened to on a beach or a backyard, in front of an outdoor fireplace, maybe with one of those barbeque islands with a built in grill for atmospheric scent.  Listen to “Hope” for the epic line: “You don’t always have to hold your head higher than your heart.”  All in all, this is one of the crooning strummer’s best efforts, a really epic album with a mellow, awesome vibe.
