Are Young Voters Getting The News They Need?

Are young voters getting the political information they need to make an informed decision. Many are getting their news online – however those that do only do it on average of once per week. The good news is that they will increase their exposure to both regular news and to political news.

News aggregators are very important to teens with 66% getting their internet news from those sources. However this raises the question – are they only looking at the headlines. Social news sites are also very popular with young voters. But again how many are actually reading the news articles – and how many are just reading the headlines?

News organizations of all types are having difficulties coming to terms with the effect that aggregators are having on their readership. Also interesting is that almost 30% of teens do not look at the online news in any shape or form. Perhaps they get the news from television. Perhaps they don’t. One wonders what this means for the future of the country.
