Training for New Job as a Software Vendor

For many years, I was happy with my simple life:  I worked a corporate job behind the desk as an insurance salesman and I was happy.  I guess it was the routine, but I liked my consistent life.

But, when the company started to suffer financially, they decided to get rid of their higher paid staff, pay out a severance package, and cut costs on the top.  I was hoping that I wouldn’t be a victim of their cuts, but as it turns out, I was one of the first to go.

I enjoyed the first few weeks of not having a job by taking a vacation for the first time in years.  It was refreshing, but it didn’t help the fact that I was going to need to find a new job for the first time in 25 years - talk about scary.

As it turns out, there were some ads from some document management software vendors in the area and they were looking for new software sales people.  I thought that it could be something new for me, so I dropped off my resume at a few stores and waited to hear back.

After two interviews, I found myself as the newest sales member of a document imaging company, a role that I would have never considered just a few months ago.  I have a lot to learn, but I think I have found my new place in the workforce.
