Add Beads to a Hearing Aid Tube
There are a lot of children in the world who have to wear hearing aids. Most of them go through a period of being uncomfortable with the fact that they have to wear a hearing aid. This is normal to experience since it sets them apart from other kids.
One way that you can help your child get through this tough period is to find ways to decorate the hearing aid. Instead of hiding the hearing aid, your child will be proud to show it off. Plus decorating the hearing aid can be a great fun project for you and your child to do together.
I found one great set of instructions for doing this online. These instructions suggest that you and your child add colorful beads to the tube of the hearing aid. You simply purchase beads that would be made to make jewelry. Choose a size that will fit tightly (but not too tightly) around the hearing aid tube. You can create neat designs and change them out for different outfits or different holidays.
It’s tough having a child who has to wear a hearing aid. Kids all want to fit in and this is something that will make your child stand out. By helping your child stand out in a positive way, you’ll make the whole thing go more smoothly and create positive memories for your kid. In fact, I think every hearing clinic should have a craft room for doing things like this!
Sleep Apnea and Sore Throats
One of the most frustrating things in the world is when a cure for an illness causes a new symptom. These side effects typically aren’t as bad as the condition itself but they’re still annoying. A common problem for people who are being treated for sleep apnea is that they get a sore throat from using their CPAP machine. Luckily this is a problem that can easily be treated.
The most common reason that people get a sore throat from their CPAP machine is because the machine causes their throat to dry up too much. The solution for this is to get a heated humidifer designed to work with your CPAP machine. This will allow for increased moisture which should reduce or eliminate the sore throat. These humidifers are available at most stores that sell CPAP supplies.
If this doesn’t work then the other methods that you normally use to treat a sore throat may be effective. Gargle with warm salt water. Drink a warm cup of tea or milk that has honey in it. Suck on a lozenge. Having a sore throat isn’t nearly as bad as being unable to breathe at night so this is considered a minor side effect but you should still treat it to alleviate your discomfort.
Post Shuffleboard Rules at the Bar
I never knew much about the game of shuffleboard until I met my boyfriend. He was the one who told me about all of the little dive bars in our area that had shuffleboards for the patrons to play. It was a favorite game of his. Since we were a couple, I felt like it was important to learn to play the game.
It turned out that I really enjoyed playing shuffleboard. However, I couldn’t ever quite seem to remember all of the shuffleboard game rules. I knew the basic rules but my boyfriend would constantly tell me that I couldn’t do something I’d just done. I was never really sure whether he was just joshing me or whether I was really breaking the rules of the shuffleboard game.
That’s when I started to wonder why they don’t post the rules for shuffleboard at local bars that have the game. It seems like it would be a smart thing to do. As I have proven, not everyone knows how to play shuffle board when they first enter a bar that has the game. People would benefit from having the rules posted. Plus then I would know whether or not my boyfriend was telling me about the right rules while we played!
Date Capture Is Not Data Entry
I recently got into a disagreement with a friend about what data capture means. She insisted that data capture and data entry are the same thing. I don’t think that she could be further from the truth. The main difference is that data capture is automated and data entry requires manual work.
Data capture systems include a variety of different types of things but they’re all automated. For example, a barcode reader is a data capture system. It reads the data from a product’s barcode and stores it in the computer. Electronic document management systems are another example of data capture. They automatically back up computer files and save them in an organized fashion for later retrieval.
Data entry requires that you manually enter information. Instead of using a barcode reader, you would write the product’s description and sales information on a piece of paper or into a computer program. The barcode reader does it for you. So, in a sense, data capture is kind of like data entry. I’ll give my friend that much. But because it’s an automated process, it’s a whole lot different than data entry in terms of the work required by the person who is doing the job.
Cold Places I’d Consider Visiting
I am not a fan of the cold. I’m originally from Arizona so I tend to think that anything below 60 requires a sweater and anything below 30 requires that I leave the region. However, there are some cold destinations that I would be willing to visit. Those destinations are:
- Minnesota. I know - of all the places that you could visit why would you choose Minnesota? My boyfriend is from there and eventually I do want to meet his family. Since they all still live there and don’t travel much I think that it’s only going to happen if I travel to see them. Truth be told, I’d rather go during the summer but I’d be willing to go even in the cold.
- Canada. I really want to try skiing some day. My best friend insists that vacations to Canada offer the best skiing opportunities for beginners. At some point I hope to ski Canadian Rockies. We’ll see.
- Iceland. For all of the talk that I present about how I hate the cold, the single destination I’d love to visit most in the world is Iceland. It just sounds so magical and beautiful. I’d weather the storm for that one.

Implications of Social Networking
I was just signing in to facebook from campus — I’m down here with my husband, who has a class on campus this semester — and it occurred to me what an amazing tool social networking sites offer.
Before facebook, I had very little contact with my old friends from high school. I had one friend — one friend — from high school who sent me cards at Christmas and on my birthday, and just in general tried to keep in touch. But that was it — and I wasn’t even very good at keeping in touch with her in return.
But since signing up for facebook, I have a whole bunch of people on my page from my graduating class. Suddenly I am able to keep in touch with people I was never able to before. It’s amazing!
As useful as social networking is for people’s social lives, I started wondering if it can be used for other things. Well, of course. It occurred to me that I’d seen marketing messages sent via facebook and Twitter, and I’d heard of group management software integrating with Twitter to help sports teams and other groups stay in touch better.
Technology may have complicated our lives in some ways, but it has also simplified them in many ways, too. How has technology helped to simplify your life?
Running a Bed and Breakfast
I have recently started to take an interest in running a bed and breakfast. I think that it would be fun to get the chance to host travelers on a regular basis. Since I can’t travel myself all of the time, this would be a way that I could hear travel stories and meet foreigners while still earning an income.
The one thing that I’m concerned about is that running a bed and breakfast is a lot of work. I want to take it seriously. I’m putting together a business plan so that it has a good chance of becoming a profitable endeavor. Doing this is tough work. I have to examine my customer demographics, look at my financials and create a strategy for marketing my bed and breakfast.
This stuff is tough for me. I’m good at the details. I know that each room should have fresh flowers, delivery maps from local restaurants and other nice touches. But the planning for the big stuff is tougher for me to figure out. I’m worried that it will be too tough. I think I’d like having a bed and breakfast though so hopefully it will end up being worth it. We’ll see as time goes on.
Learning About the History of Film
There is just something nice about having the weekend off, and for the first time in about six months, I get to have that luxury. It has been so busy at work that no one has had a weekend off in a long time, but they decided that everyone deserved a break.
It has given me the opportunity to catch up on some television shows that I recorded over the past couple of months. I know that I could be out doing many other things such as yard work or cleaning the house, but I have decided to relax instead.
So, for most of the day today, I have been watching some shows on how they do illustrations for movies and it has been a real eye opener. I watched how they did the animation for Bambi and it looks like they had to put in a lot of work. I guess in some respects it must be a lot easier now for animators as they can use computers to do a lot of the work.
I am just going to run to the store to get some more snacks and then come watch a program on how Super 8 film revolutionized the film industry. I bet it will be very interesting.
Looking to Work at a Law Firm
Last year, I decided that it was time for a change. I had been working as a waitress for over five years, and though the tips were good, I didn’t see myself as a career waitress. I wanted something more from life, so I decided to enroll in school to become a legal secretary.
The community college down the street offered a ten month course, and that is where my journey began. I chose the career path because of the number of Tampa criminal lawyer offices in my area, so I thought that the job prospects would be good.
Now, ten months later, I just finished writing my last exam, and now I am out looking for work. I have made a list of the offices of some criminal lawyers where I will be dropping off my resume, and I am hoping that I have an easy time getting a job.
Even though I had some of the best marks in my class, I know that the other forty people that received their training the same time I did will be my competition. As long as I can make it through the job interviews, I think I have a good shot of getting a job. Wish me luck!
My Website Updates
I’ve been working on my website updates for at least a year now. It’s taking a long time because I’m always so busy that when I don’t have client work to do, there are a ton of other things that also need my attention. So the website updates get put on hold much more often than they should.
My updates don’t include any design changes — just text and a few new pages, so they really shouldn’t be so difficult to do. When I finish writing the copy for the new pages, I’ll just upload them to my server via FTP. I love FTP — it makes it so easy to upload stuff to my website. Also, my hosting plan gives me tons of FTP server space, enabling me to use it for free online storage whenever it’s needed.
FTP also enables me to publish my blog on my own server from Blogger. It means that I have to use a traditional Blogger template, but that’s okay — I like the control that it gives me to have my blog and all my images on my own server!
Anyway, I’m pretty close now to having my website updates complete, so hopefully soon I’ll be able to upload them and scratch that whole project off my to-do list!
