Planning Gravel Driveways

Having a driveway is a way to increase the value of your home if you don’t already have one, but a concrete driveway can be pretty expensive to get — and difficult for you to do yourself if that’s the way you want to go.  Many people therefore settle for cheaper gravel driveways.  For instance, my husband and I have a parking area off the alley on the back of our property that is “paved” with large gravel or small stones, whichever way you prefer to look at it.

Getting a gravel driveway put in isn’t difficult.  In fact, you may even be able to get the gravel for free if you look around for someone who just wants their old gravel hauled away.  In that case, you will probably want to use a gravel screening machine once you get the gravel hauled back to your property — this ensures that all of the gravel is the right size for your driveway, and not just a hodge podge of sizes.

A gravel screener such as an EZ Screen can typically be rented if you expect only to have to do this once or twice, or purchased if you think you will have to do it more often (such as if you own a business that does gravel driveways, parking areas, and walkways or paths).
