Ways to Save Money on Maternity Clothing
Getting pregnant and having a baby costs a lot, in more areas than just one. It’s nice to be able to cut costs where you can, and one of those places is maternity clothing.
Here are a few suggestions for saving money on maternity clothing.
- Ask for hand-me-downs. If you know other women who have had a baby recently, ask them if they have any maternity clothes to give you. You may not be able to build an entire wardrobe that way, but at least you won’t have to buy quite as much!
- Shop at thrift and discount stores. You can find inexpensive maternity clothing by shopping at thrift stores and discount clothing stores. Even though the clothing at thrift stores is used, you can comfort yourself in the fact that it’s not very used, because it’s not like it would have fit its last owner for very long!
- Shop the sales. Look for sales on maternity clothing, and be sure to take advantage of what you find. If you are really good at planning ahead, you might be able to capitalize on the sales on last season’s clothing, either by planning to layer (for wearing spring and summer clothes in fall and winter) or because you know you’ll be about that pregnant for that season next year!
- Get just a few good things. My grandmother always used to say that it was better to have just a few good things, than a whole lot of cheap things. You don’t need something different to wear for every day of your pregnancy. You won’t be wearing these clothes that long, so get just a few good things and then proceed to wear the heck out of them.
- Keep your old maternity clothes. After you have your baby, don’t get rid of all those maternity clothes. If you are planning on having another child, they will come in handy the next time you are expecting!
Saving money on just about anything is an art, and these are just the tools of the trade. What other tips and tricks can you think of for saving money on maternity clothing?

I borrowed some of my husbands clothing as mens track pants and bits are alot looser it seems. However I must add, my husband is 6.2ft and I am 5 ft nothing.
