Changing Views About Solar Energy
I think we live in an exciting time, as far as energy and environmental issues. Environmentalism used to be a bad word in the minds of big business and big government. Now a lot of those people have come around to see that saving energy and things like home solar systems and getting involved in conservation can actually be good for business. I don’t hear the word ‘tree hugger‘ anymore, at least not much. More people seem to be getting on the same page.
I think science and the internet have been big in bringing about this change. Pollution has become a worldwide issue and emerging countries have learned a lot faster than we did that it has serious consequences, like global warming. I don’t think there’s any one way of solving that problem, but I think whatever we each can do, whether it’s using solar power or wind power will help. I was a teen during the Carter era and it was really disappointing to have his energy conservation ideas shot down. There weren’t enough pioneers and people with influence involved back then. But now it’s different - still not perfect, but I am so much more optimistic now than I was then.
