Listening or Waiting for Your Turn to Talk
I was watching a movie recently in which one character was asking the other a series of "either/or" questions. One of those questions was "do you listen or do you wait for your turn to talk?" It’s an interesting question and one that I think most people wouldn’t answer honestly.
My best friend and I are notorious for having entire conversations in which we really don’t listen to each other at all. For example, he has probably told me more than once about how he used to be really interested in airsoft guns. He played with kwa guns and tokyo marui guns. But it wasn’t until I had reason to bring up the topic of airsoft that I realized he’d told me about this before because he responded, "remember when I told you about playing airsoft with Dave and Joe …"
We laugh about this. His girlfriend hates it when he does the same thing to her but we realize that sometimes we aren’t talking to inform each other about stuff. Sometimes we’re just talking to allow each other to vent about things that don’t really matter. Sometimes it is okay just to be waiting for your turn to talk.
