Alien Baseball

My first experience in a Tampa indoor baseball training facility came to pass in a roundabout manner. It all started with my girlhood infatuation with David Duchovny, the actor most famous for his role on the X-Files as Fox Mulder. David Duchovny wrote and directed an episode of the X-Files himself, and this episode featured an alien who disguised himself as a human in order to play professional baseball. The episode closes with Fox explaining his love of the game to Scully while helping her swing at balls in a batting cage. On a whim, I tracked down some softball batting cages Clearwater, my hometown. Unfortunately, I couldn’t hit anything. I thought my mom would have a good laugh about it, but instead she wanted to encourage me to pursue baseball. I think she was thrilled with the idea of me actually playing a sport. She was a great volleyball player in college. She talked me into going to a Tampa baseball camp. I was pretty skeptical at first, but I actually made a lot of friends and had fun. Now, believe it or not, I’m on my high school team. I even hammered the winning home run in one game.
