Fly Rod Cleaning
Keeping your Fly rods clean and in good repair will protect your investment for years to come. The last thing you want on your long planned trout fishing trip is to deal with equipment problems. Here’s a few basics in maintaining your fly rod equipment.
Fly rod cleaning keeps your equipment free from dirt, grime, algae and oil or smudge marks. To clean your cork grip use a mild cleansing soap or dish detergent and scrub thoroughly. Be careful not to rub the metal hardware, wood-spacer or reel seat as you don’t want to scratch the metal surfaces. Dry the cork grip with a soft terry cloth and you’re good to go fishing in Georgia or wherever your favorite fishing hole is.
For the Rod Blank, Reel Seat and Hardware use household furniture polish. Wipe with a terry cloth sponge and don’t forget to check under the guides. It’s a good idea to check the guides once a year. If your guides are dirty try cleaning them with a q-tip.
Don’t forget to keep your equipment in their protective bags and cases. Also inspect your gear for periodically for breakage. Use these tip to ensure your fly fishing trips are successful.
