Peace of Mind with a Hidden Camera and the Web
A few years ago, it became a big thing for preschools and childcare centers to install wireless security cameras in all their classrooms and on the playground. Kind of like nanny cams, parents can log in online to view live footage in their child’s classroom or playground. The idea is that it enables parents to see what they don’t usually get to see: how their child plays and behaves when their parents are not around.
Many doggie daycares have also adopted this feature. For instance, I wrote an article about a year ago on local doggie daycares, dog parties, etc. for a local dog magazine. Many of the facilities I interviewed had a hidden camera installed overlooking their playground and another overlooking their playroom. The footage played on their website, enabling the dogs’ owners to check in on their fur children periodically throughout the day if they wished.
Technology has made many things possible that never would have been otherwise. As a parent, it used to be that the only way you could see how your kid behaved without you around was to try to remain unseen for a few moments when you came to pick him or her up from childcare or school. And with your dog — well, aside from calling periodically throughout the day to check on your pooch (and probably driving the caretakers nuts), there wasn’t much you could do there, either.
Hooray for technology for bringing us such peace of mind!
